Reupholstering (info bit)

While writing about our new reupholstering project and the couch we did some time ago, I briefly mentioned my 'method' of pinning inside out, sewing and trying to get everything as snug as possible. I know it doesn't sound like a really good and professional method, but it works (more or less). There is a YouTube video of Joquena from Modernhomemakers, who has made a video of the method I also more or less use.

Although not every cushion (or wing chair part) is square, and you do not always have enough fabric to take the side all the way around (like when doing the couch), this video does give you the technique you can use and modify to your requirements.

Last night we finished the wings of the chair - this morning our cat approves :-). To make the wings fit exactly I used the same method I used when reupholstering the couch.

Reupholster Project - Part 4

So we went to Ikea (on a Saturday afternoon - never ever ever again) and we came home with this navy (or Obelix's pants) fabric. We started off with the back of the chair and it's looking good!

Homemade Cat Treats

Most of you know by now that I'm a sucker for our cat and for Disign Sponge. So when they published a recipe for cat treats this evening, I rushed to the store to get tuna and oat flour.

RECIPE: Crunchy Tuna Cat Treats
This is the DesignSponge/Joy Wilson recipe, I left out the catnip (our store did not have them, and the pet shop was closed by then) and as you can see I was a little too lazy to press X-shapes in the cookie balls. Instead I pinched a piece of dough together en pressed it on baking paper. They don't look as great as the ones on DesignSponge (especially in those amazing cat containers), but our cat loves them anyway.

As humans we tried them too, let's just say the cat loves them more than we do!

Reupholster Project - Part 3

This evening we finished pulling all the staples out and getting the fabric off. We made sure to make pictures of every little step we made and of things that may come in handy when putting it back together again. Furthermore we labeled every piece so we know what is what. I'm sorry to say that we don't have any pictures of the 'naked' chair, we simply forgot to make them.

Tom did the calculations, and we need approximately six meters of fabric (with the standard Ikea width of 1.50 m). I wonder what we will get at Ikea.

Reupholster Project - Part 2

We've started undoing ALL the staples, and when you think there is not a staple left, there is always one more to go! This evening we got the bottom off, and most of the staples from the other bottom parts.
